11AM – 3PM

The Brunswick Sustainability Group presents to the community a Bike Fair. The goal of the Bike Fair is to encourage attendees to view bicycling as a viable means of transportation in and around our community and to motivate people to get on their bikes!

A long-range goal of the Town of Brunswick Bike and Pedestrian Advisory Committee is that one-day a middle school aged child will be able to walk or bicycle safely and comfortably anywhere in Brunswick. This is a great goal for the Town - for all of our citizens, young and old. While it is clear that improvements can and need to be made in order to make it a reality, we believe that this is a realistic goal. The benefits of bicycling are many – cheaper than driving, helps to reduce greenhouse gases, facilitates better community interaction and it is great exercise.

Brunswick has been named a Bicycle Friendly Community. Brunswick already has a number of features that welcome bikers. If we, the community members, want to increase and improve the bike-a-bility of Brunswick this Bike Fair will be a way to let the Town hear your voice.

We are planning the bike fair to draw a range of people-from avid bikers to people who may not have ridden a bike in years. Our hope is that the fair, through example bikes on display, safety demonstrations, a group ride and information presented by a number of community members and groups will motivate more people to view and ride bicycles as more than just a form of exercise but an effective and efficient form of transportation.

The Bike Fair will be held on the Brunswick Mall on Saturday 26 April 2008 (Rain date: Saturday 3 May 2008) from 11AM to 3PM.
